The Fi-156 was created as a reconnaissance, liaison and air-ambulance aircraft in 1936 by Dr. Gerhard Fieseler. This unique airplane’s legs, struts and windows stuck out everywhere, and its landing gear hung down, looking very much like a long-legged, big-winged bird,so it was given the nickname “Storch” (the German word for stork).

Virtually nothing about a Storch is streamlined. It was a purpose-built, short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft which, with a bit of headwind, could become airborne in less than 200 feet, and when its low landing speed was combined with a strong headwind, the Storch appeared to land vertically, and sometimes looked like it was flying backwards.

This kit is an updated version of an earlier version. The improvements over the original are improved undercarriage and strut attachments, improved pushrod system, 3 layer tailplane construction for added strength, and improved scale detail. This model captures the very essence of the Fieseler Fi 156 Storch with its solid yet lightweight framework structure as per the full-size aircraft but is built from balsa and hardwoods and includes a molded plastic cowl and rear screen. Also supplied are a pair of scale aircraft wheels, carbon tube wing spars, and joiners plus a comprehensive hardware pack that includes nuts, bolts, control horns, rods, and connectors, etc.

The Fieseler Storch has been designed to use a 28mm brushless outrunner motor with 300~400 watts of power or it can be modified to take an equivalent nitro engine. The leading edge slats can be fixed for a simpler set up or they can be working with a servo on each. The flaps also could be fixed for a simpler set up but this model comes into its own with working flaps. So if you have working slats and flaps plus the ailerons you will require 6 x 9~10g micro servos for the wings then 2 x 9~10g or similar for the rudder and elevator.

Overall this is a fantastic kit and due to its ease of construction, it is perfect for the seasoned builder or those with limited building experience. Once finished in an authentic color scheme, and with the addition of scale accessories such as a pilot and instrument panel, this scale looking Fieseler Storch will look the part and turn heads when performing low, slow passes and STOL take-offs and landings at your local flying field.

Insta-Cure™

Insta-Cure™ has a water-thin viscosity that wicks deep into joints by capillary action and cures in a matter of a few seconds. Surfaces to be bonded must be tight fitting and should be held together while you apply the CA around the edges of the seam. At the moment CAs cure, they give off a vapor that can irritate the nose and eyes, so be prepared. Thin CAs work very well on balsa since they penetrate into the wood and form more than just a surface bond.

Pocket CAs feature a new top that has a pin built into the cap that covers the nozzle. This pin seals the bottle so that if it is tipped over, the bottle will not leak. This makes the Pocket CAs ideal for keeping in your tool or field box, just like our IC-Gel. One disadvantage that the new Pocket CA top has is the bluntness of the nozzle. This makes it more difficult to apply small amounts of the CA, especially in tight places. From the feedback we have received, it appears about 25-30% of users prefer the new Pocket CA top, which means that over 70% prefer our standard top for general bonding purposes. Most users are buying both types. Our original top for the workshop, and the Pocket CA for use out in the field. The 3/4 oz. Insta-Cure+™ Super Glue, CA

Insta-Cure+™ is a higher viscosity CA for loose fitting joints in which the adhesive must bridge gaps. Normally, the thicker CA is applied to one surface and then the parts are held tightly together for about 5 to 15 seconds. For large surface areas, including those with close fitting joints such as laminations, INSTA-CURE+ ™ should also be used. To prevent premature curing, don’t spread the glue into a thin film. Lay down a serpentine bead with about 1" separations on one surface, then assemble the parts, letting the pressure spread the CA out.

Directions:

Unscrew top from nozzle. For finer applications, use the extender tip. Apply Insta-Cure+™ CA to one side of the parts being joined, then hold them tightly together for 5-15 seconds. For larger bonding areas, apply serpentine beads of the CA with enough spacing to allow for the spreading of the adhesive. Insta-Set™ accelerator can be sprayed to cure the CA that oozes from joints. Full strength is reached in three hours. Wipe the nozzle clean before replacing screw-on top. Refrigerate to extend shelf life. Cured CA is stable from -40 to 220° F. Soak extender tip in acetone for cleaning
